When you register a limited company, certain addresses are published on the public Companies House register – visible to anyone who searches online. If you used your home address as your registered office or service address, it’s out there.
The good news is that you can now remove it. Changes introduced by the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 extended the suppression rules significantly. Since January 2025, it’s been possible to remove a home address from the register even where it was used as a registered office – something that wasn’t previously allowed.
This guide explains exactly when your home address gets published, how to apply to have it removed using form SR01, and how to avoid the problem altogether with a third-party address.
Key takeaways
- If you use your home address as one of your company’s official addresses when you register your company, it will appear on the public register.
- You can now remove a service address and a registered office address from the public register due to changes brought in by the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023.
- You can use a third-party address in place of your official company address to keep your home address off the public register.
Can I remove my home address from the Companies House register?
Yes, you can remove your home address from the Companies House register in many circumstances.
Before January 2025, you could only remove your home address from the register if it had been used as the service address of a subscriber, director, or person with significant control. However, changes introduced by the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 in January 2025 enabled the removal from the public record of a home address that had been used as the registered office address.

How to suppress a home address from the public register
You can ask Companies House to suppress (remove) your home address (or part of it) from the public register if you used it as your service address or as your registered office address. You can do this by submitting form SR01.
You can ask Companies House to remove your home address from any filings made since 2003 that are shown on the public register.
If you want to suppress a registered office address, you must change to a new address before suppressing the old one.
As part of the application, you’ll need to provide the following details:
- Title and full name
- Any former name(s) used for business purposes in the past 20 years
- Date of birth
- A correspondence address for the Registrar to contact you about your application
- Email address
- The home address you want to remove from the public register
- New service address (unless the company is dissolved or you no longer hold a position that requires a service address)
At the end of the form, you must list all documents on the public register under your name that show your home address. For each document, you must provide the following details:
- Company registration number
- Company name in full
- Document title or filing type – e.g. AP01 Appointment of director
- Registration date – this is the date on which the document was registered at Companies House
What if my address appears on more than one document?
You must provide the required information for each document containing your home address. There’s space for three documents on the SR01 form. If you need to remove your address from more documents, you should complete a SR01 continuation page. It costs £34 to remove your home address from each document.
You must pay the fee before you file your SR01 form. Once you’ve paid, you’ll receive a payment reference, which must be included in your SR01 form. An SR01 form without a payment reference will be rejected.
Which documents can I remove my home address from?
You can only apply to remove your home address from the documents on this list provided by Companies House.
Apply to withhold your home address from credit reference agencies
Even if your home address isn’t published on the public register, Companies House still makes it available to credit reference agencies.
You can ask Companies House to withhold your home address from credit reference agencies if you’re at risk of violence or intimidation due to your company’s work. Directors and LLP members can apply under section 243 of the Companies Act 2006, and persons with significant control (PSCs) can apply under section 790ZF of the Companies Act 2006.
You can request an application form by emailing dsr@companieshouse.gov.uk.
Why is my home address on the Companies House register?
Companies House publishes certain information about limited companies to make them transparent, accountable, and credible. If you provide your home address when registering your company, it will be added to the Companies House register.
When is your residential address published online?
Information about your limited company is made publicly available online as soon as your company is registered.
If you provide your residential address as any of the following, it will appear on the public register:
- Registered office
- Service address for directors, secretaries, and people with significant control
- Subscribers’ address (the address of the first members of the company)
How easy is it to find my home address on the register?
If you used a home address as a service address, registered office address, or a shareholder’s address, a member of the public can use the Companies House search tool to find that home address in the following ways:
- Registered office address – immediately made available on the search results page on the dedicated company page, and in certain company filings under ‘Filing history’
- Director’s service address – appears under ‘Officers’ in the ‘People’ tab, on the dedicated company page, and in certain company filings under ‘Filing history’
- Person with significant control’s service address – appears under ‘Persons with significant control’ in the ‘People’ tab on the dedicated company page, and in certain company filings under ‘Filing history’
- Subscribers’ address – appears in the ‘Incorporation’ documents, under ‘Filing history’, on the dedicated company page
The registered office and service addresses can also appear in online search results, such as Google.
When would a home address not be published on the Companies House register?
When you appoint a director or a PSC, you must provide a residential address. However, this information is only given to credit reference agencies (unless you have received an exemption) and government agencies, and isn’t made publicly available. If you want this address to remain private, make sure you don’t provide it as the director’s or PSC’s service address, because that will be made publicly available.
Why is it risky for your home address to appear publicly?
If your private home address is on the public register, it’s risky for several reasons, including:
- It makes you vulnerable to unwanted and unexpected visitors
- It makes you vulnerable to company fraud and ID fraud
- Using a residential address as your company’s registered office suggests your company is small and less professional
Use a registered office address service to protect your privacy
You can protect yourself and your company from the risks associated with having your home address on the public register by using a different address. We strongly recommend this option.
One option would be to use a third-party address, with permission, as your registered office address. For example, you can use a solicitor’s or accountant’s address, as long as you have their permission. 1st Formations also offers a registered office, service address, or business address service, allowing you to use our prestigious central London location as your official address.

Really interesting blog, thank you! One question, can I remove my home address from the public record if I’ve used it as a registered office?
Hi Amelia
Thank you for your kind comment.
Unfortunately, it is not currently possible to remove a registered office address from the filing history. This includes if you have used your own home address. The only way it may be removed is with a court order which is costly, may take a while, and has no guarantee of success.
